Becca

Happy New Year, Harriett!

I just wanted to send you a few photos of Becca and let you know what a great dog she is. We are so glad we found her through Ruffus Rescue. She is a wonderful companion and seems very happy with her life with us. It has been great to watch her progress from shyness to confidence over the past few months. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her. In one of the photos she is wearing a hoodie that our neighbor gave her as a welcome present! Becca clearly thinks it is very special.

She loves the long walks that Phil takes her on almost every day. She enjoys her big backyard. She likes to watch the squirrels from her perch on an old tree stump or from her "hiding place" under the deck. When she thinks she has a chance, she leaps into action, chasing a squirrel as fast as she can until it runs up a tree. I have never seen a dog run like Becca! She is like a jack rabbit, springing into the air and racing around, seemingly never getting winded.

She is also very affectionate, playful, and really smart. She is a quick learner. We are having fun teaching her to retrieve a ball when we play ping pong. If the ball hits the floor, she grabs it, gently, and then drops it near one of us, after which she gets a treat. She watches the ping pong game intently, waiting for her opportunity to fetch the ball. She has an idiosyncrasy about her toys: she cannot stand anything with a squeaker inside! She will take the offending toy and hide it somewhere far away from her. This cuts down on the toys we can get for her--seems like most of them do have squeakers inside. She prefers things like tennis balls, old socks, and rope toys.

Becca is simply an all-around great dog!

Thanks again, Harriett for the good work that you do.

Finn

Harriett,

I just wanted to shoot you an email and let you know how things are going with Finn and send you our Christmas pictures :), I also included a cute little picture I took of him and my cat, Theo cuddled up together. They are getting along really well. Theo sleeps on the dog bed, Finn curls up in a ball on the cat bed, Theo plays with the tennis balls and the dog toys and Finn plays with the toy mouse and the jingle balls that I had for Theo. It's the funniest thing. (Little did I know I should have been buying dog stuff for my cat all this time because he just loves it.) Anyway, I just fall more and more in love with Finn every day. I'm a very happy pet-mommy. I'm so happy that he and I found each other. I will come bring him by the pet store for a visit one weekend.

Hope you had a wonderful holiday.
Thank you for everything,

Athena

Lady

Hi Harriett,
Here is one of your "charges", happily asleep in Brevard after a typical day of digging in the dirt, walking on leash to the College and running free, hunting for field mice.

We love the girl so much. She's now been with us for 2 years. Although it was very much touch and go for the first year (she had lots of issues), she is doing just great. She goes on a weekly hike in the (Pisgah) Forest for several hours and has her own backpack. What a good life she has. When we walk to town there are several stores we frequent: Pure Pets, Harris Hardware, a shoe store, Chamber of Commerce, an athletic wear store, the dentist (if I need to drop something off), the Antique Mall, Riversong Veterinary Cliinic, certain art galleries, Hunter-Gathrers, and quirky shops. Let's not forget Lowe's but, that's not downtown.  So there's your 2-year update. Take care and when we're in Atlanta, as you know, we take her to Wellpet Humane, as needed.
