Daisy (Ursula)

Dear Harriet,

Just a note to tell you the good news that Daisy was tested for heartworm this week and that the test was negative. She already had her first vacation with us and spent Thanksgiving on the beach in Florida. She is such a great dog and we could not be happier having her in our life. She is now part of a 3-dog family, because we adopted another rescue dog (also heartworm positive) 3 weeks ago. The same size and age as Daisy, so they are a good match.

We still look often at your website and wish you all the best with your dog rescues in 2012.

Warm regards,
Geert-Jan & Margreet

Mochi (Shelby)

Hi Harriett!

We're doing great! We have re-named her Mochi (pronounced "Moe-Chee") and she responds to it! We are teaching her basic commands, but after the craziness of the holidays, I plan to take her to obedience training. Everyone who meets her thinks she's so cute and sweet, she is a great companion for me to bring everywhere I go.

She has adjusted really well, our other dog is starting to cuddle with her, and I am still in love with her sweet personality.

Wellpet Humane has said nothing but great things about you, and I've run into people who have adopted from Ruffus Rescue and they also have great things to say about you! Thank you for your services and dedication to our furry companions who have no voice. Thank you for saving Mochi's life so we can enjoy it for many years to come! Happy Thanksgiving! :)

Wrigley

Hi Harriett!

We absolutely love this dog! He has been wonderful from day 1! He adores the kids and stands over them to protect (maybe trying to dominate?? haha, who knows! What's your take on that?). He does not leave the yard as long as I'm outside and he doesn't even pick fights! He has started playing with toys just this week, only sometimes but getting better every week. He has really come out of his shell and I can actually see happiness in his eyes :)

I just wanted to send you a picture of him sitting with the bunny. He only got excited about him one time but never lunges toward him and backs away just at the word "no". We can't wait to formally adopt him. Just let me know when.

Nelson

I had to show you this… (attached). This week, Pete is working on-location — his 1st week away during the day since having Matrix at home. We're having him (Matrix, not Pete) spend the days at Barking Hound Village and he seems to be having fun. Today he made their Facebook page, which I had to snap and send to you — I can't believe he posed for this when it took us 12 shots just to get him in-focus!

We're calling him Nelson, Gracie's choice, to help her feel that she has more say-so about him being here. They're getting along really well, and we love having him here. Last night he woke us all up when he heard outside noises — a hopeful sign that he's feeling at home.

Take care, I hope you're finding a lot of other great pets new homes!

Finn

Hello!

Here are some pictures of Chandler (who we have now named Finn)! All the kids are getting along great and as you can see in one the pictures, they even lay with each other. Finn and Roxy like playing so much that we have actually had to designate that for during outside (or on the porch) time only, lol. Finn fits in wonderfully and even takes over Ryan’s side of the bed from time to time. As I said yesterday, everyone who comes in contact with Finn thinks he is a fabulous boy! He is going with me to a craft festival this Sat and even got to meet our Mayor on his morning run with Ryan today!

We can’t thank you enough for saving him from the pound! Now that we have him I don’t know what we would ever do without him! He is forever in our hearts and our home! We still haven’t been able to get a good picture of the 5 of us, but as soon as I get one I will send it to you! I will also continue to send you pictures throughout his life!

Oh oh, I almost forgot! When we took him to Sheena’s house she did her mini vet check on him and we found out that his is actually around 7 months old and no more than 8 months! She said that he has JUST lost his baby k-9 teeth and that happen between 7-8 months! We were a little shocked, but even more impressed that he is this well behaved at only 7 months!

Once again thank you so much for saving him and giving us the opportunity, give him a wonderful life!

Talk to you soon!

Delilah

Harriett,

Delilah is doing great. I am attaching a few photos for you to take a look at. Samantha says she loves having a dog, Sarah is getting used to her as well. No issues with the rabbits, although we keep them separated. Hope all is well. Thanks,

Roland

Marley & Splash

Marley and her sister Splash (Carley) had a reunion yesterday in Alabama! Sisters together again! Lots of fun. They have a lot of the same traits as each other. Splash is more protective of his mother and Marley is a big baby! FYI, they had no idea they were sisters!

Jade

I’ve had Jade for one year this past Saturday. She’s doing GREAT. We are still going to agility classes. She’s having a hard time with the sounds in the building. I’m taking her this Saturday to a ‘run thru’ at another agility class. They hold their classes outside and for $10, I can try and run Jade on their outdoor equipment. So, we’ll see. She does GREAT in my backyard, but, she’s always a little scared when I take her to new places, so I’m not sure what to expect. But, no matter what, I love the girl. I’ve attached a couple of ‘family’ photo’s for your enjoyment. I took these to mark her one year w/ the family.

Jade (1.5 years)
MoJo – Black and Tan dachshund (7 months)
Hera – GSD (10 years)
Cieara Rose – Red Dachshund (14 years)

Thanks,

Barney

Harriett:

In October 2007, I was lucky enough to meet and adopt the best dog in the world, terrier mix Barney (formerly Trooper), from Ruffus Rescue. He had been abused and tried to escape under a fence, and his back was torn up and he had undergone multiple surgeries to fix it before I met him. I am happy to report that, four years later, he is healthy and active and only has a few minor scars from his previous life that don't even show when his hair is longer. He is a loyal, smart, and wonderful pet and made me a true believer in the amazing, giving work you do. I just wanted to write you and say thanks for everything. I am attaching a recent picture of Barney, surrounded by toys as usual. You are truly an angel!

Bambi

Hi Harriett,

I wanted to drop you a note and let you know how Bambi is doing and send a few pictures of her. She is quite a character. She settled into the family rather quickly and it didn't take her long to let her new brothers (also Beagles) know that she was the princess and would rule the roost around here. They play along and let her think she's the boss! Bambi loves toys more than anything (except food of course)! She thinks they all belong to her and doesn't like to share them, but will play a game of tug of war with Bailey on occasion. Her favorite now is the tennis ball. She will run and chase it as long as you will through it for her. Bambi is a very sweet girl that keeps us entertained. She is a wonderful addition to our family. Thank you so much for rescuing this sweet, lovable girl from the shelter and letting her become a part of our life.

Elbert

Harriett,

I hope you are doing well. How is the dog rescue activity now-a-days? I just wanted to say hi and thank you for finding the best puppy ever (Elbert). He is quite possibly the sweetest dog I have ever been around and I am so happy he is a part of my family.

Leah

Harriett,

I thought that you might like to know how Leah is doing. She is GREAT! She is such a sweetheart with a great personality and very well behaved. She has only had one accident in the house since the day I adopted her in January. Her personality finally started coming out once she got comfortable and has been great. We did learn that she is allergic to peanut butter, but other than that, things have been perfect. I am sending you a couple of pics of her as well.

Thanks again,
Terry

Wrigley (Hansel)

Hello Harriett,

We adopted Wrigley from you in March of last year. When we adopted him, he was known as Hansel and was there with his mom Gretel. He is doing wonderfully! He has a huge fenced in yard to play in and even a neighbor Boxer, Great Dane, and German Shepherd/Lab mix to play with. He loves them all! He has changed my life completely and I never imagined that I could love something so much. I have also created Wrigley Dog Designs in his honor. I make collars, leashes, dog beds, and toys and $5.00 from each sale will be donated to a rescue group in our area. I would love to have you be a part of this. Just started in the last two weeks so I still have a long way to go, but we really wanted to give back to you for all you have given us in Wrigley!

I have attached some pictures so you can see how he is doing. He ALWAYS has a ball in his mouth, and often has one in his mouth while he is kicking the other one. He is a VERY good soccer dog! Thank you so much for everything. I can't tell you enough how much he means to me. I will keep in touch as I get the website up and running and would love to hear from you about what you think!

Hi Harriett: Just providing an update. Harry is doing fine. As you can see, we've added one more family member to the insanity but they're all getting along fine! Hope things are going well for Ruffus and thanks for what you do for animals. Mike Riley

Blossom

I am sending a recent photo of Blossom (2 months) ago. She was such a wonderful addition to our family. The cancer spread quick and went to her liver so fast. We had almost 4 years with her, her picture etched in my mind forever.

She was happy and so loved by us all. My heart aches every day without her being here with us. Putting her down was such a wrenching decision, but in the end, she was in pain and I couldn't see her suffer anymore. She was stoic and fought hard. She had a spirit about her that made her so special. I know she is in a better place and we will see her again. Thank you for giving our family 4 years of joy. She will be missed.

Dylan

Hi Harriett:

We lost our Brando on Monday after 12 wonderful years. He was the best animal either of us have ever owned and being dog lovers, we have had so me great ones over the years. We made the decision to adopt Dylan when we realized that Brando would not be with us much longer and I am so thankful we did. He immediately became part of the family and adapted to the country living. He is an outstanding friend and companion and the only dog I have ever owned that was allowed in my bed. He warms my spot every night before I turn in and then promptly moves right in between us for the night. We have a dog door leading to a large fenced back yard which is surrounded by pastures with cattle, horses and coyotes in the nighttime. Dylan is very much the night owl and quietly goes in and out several times during the night to stand guard over him territory and howl at the coyotes. He is a couch potato by day and armed guard by night and we are crazy about him.

Wilbur

Hi Harriett:
Great News -- Wilbur is heartworm free! I cannot tell you how fortunate we feel to have him in our lives. He fits right in like he should have been part of the family all along. We love his go-with-the-flow attitude that makes it so he's just as content to snuggle with us on the couch as he is to play in the park! My neighbor even noticed and said, "He looks just as excited to leave the house as he is to get home." It's no surprise that everyone who meets him adores him as well. We are so grateful to you and the rest of the wonderful Ruffus Rescue group for rescuing him. Thank you so, so much!

Attached are a few pictures: one of him this past Christmas checking out the snow that was just starting to fall outside, and the other of him falling asleep after he propped himself up against Pete's leg -- the latter one always makes us laugh :)

Thanks again.

Hi Harriett:

Andy

Hi, Harriett:

I had forgotten to send a picture of Andy and our family, so I am sending the Christmas picture, with the extended family and cousins. All the boys in here are my sons, and as you can see, Andy is well loved. He is learning to bring me the paper in the morning, and loving our long morning walks. I am nuts about this dog and I cannot thank you enough for bringing him into our lives. I'm having trouble finding the pictures of him retreiving the paper, but when I find them, I will send to you! Thanks. Yvonne
